Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post and we have a pretty much packed post! The Booker awards finalist, more Amazon news and a new announcement from Kobo who will be releasing a coloured tablet. Plus our picks of upcoming books!

Well, for me the big announcement has to be from Kobo who will be launching a new wifi only tablet, and I have to say it might have pipped Amazon’s Fire tablet to the post if they are offering an open Android platform. It has similar specs to the Amazon Fire tablet, but also consists of an SD slot which can hold up to 32 gigs. An 8 gig memory and most importantly has the same price point of the Fire which is $199. It is up for preorder and is available for the US and Canada. I suspect it …

On the Booklovers Shelves: Special Vacation Edition

For this edition of shelf porn I will be showing you exactly how I smuggle so many books on holidays. My family are not readers, and I am fully aware that they don’t have the slightest inclination about how desperately I need to read. So to keep everyone happy I resorted to the favoured saying of “what they don’t know won’t hurt them” and started hiding my books so no one knew exactly how many I took.

So now I’m going to show you some of the ways I hid my books and turned my luggage into my holiday shelves:

The first way is simple…a book bag –>

Stylish and easy to pack, you can fit quite a few books in here – I shove them down the side as well. This bag is a canvas bag I actually got for …

Guest post: On A Cloudy Day by Nishi Serrano + Giveaway

Today we would like to welcome to Book Lovers Inc. Nishi Serrano whose highly unique (and very steamy!) erotic steampunk novella was released recently (you can read my review here). She is here to tell us more about the unique setting of her novella and how the inspiration struck to combine erotica and steampunk. Please give her a warm welcome!

As a child, the things around you are often the inspirations for who you will be when you grow up—if one ever decides to grow up, that is! Television shows watched (be they black and white or technicolor), books read, environments lived—these will shape you, even if you don’t want them to.

A cloudy day sky on a breezy beach caught my imagination. Appearing like a whale that should have been swimming in the ocean, instead was swimming through the sky. It was a Zeppelin. In the 1970’s blimps and Zeppelins …

Romance and Me: The Importance of a Title

Hey Everyone! Today I would like to discuss with you the importance of how a romance novel is titled.

We all know (even if we try not to judge by its cover) how important book covers are. They are the introduction, the first impression of the novel, the one thing which starts to form our opinion of the book long before we even start reading the first page. But isn’t the title of a novel just as important?

Sure, it is less obvious and usually goes hand in hand with the cover, but I’ve seen, and mostly on romance novels some cringe-worthy titles which would probably make me run as fast as I could from said books. You know the ones I’m talking about I’m sure, but here are a few examples:

The Mogul’s Maybe Marriage

Billionaire’s Jet-Set Babies
The Surgeon’s Secret Baby
Reclaiming His …

Explore This! Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada)

Our destination today doesn’t come from a direct source in my reading materials. Vancouver, B.C., I’m sure has been mentioned in many novels, particularly Canadian ones, but what is interesting is that it’s used as a place for filming some pretty cool book-to-film or TV shows. The obvious one is Twilight. Many of the scenes in all of the movies have been filmed in and around Vancouver, though mostly in the wilder areas.

Recently, L.J. Smith’s The Secret Circle has hit the small screen. Despite it’s fictional setting of Chance Harbour, Washington, it is actually filmed in Vancouver.

For me this city represents the “cool” part of Canada. While Toronto has its merits as a “place to be”, Vancouver holds its own with a beautiful blend of culture and urban living with no small amount of wilderness just around the corner. Check …

My Lifetime Love of Reading by LSUReader + Giveaway

We are happy to welcome LSUReader here at our Book Lovers United celebration. When we started brainstorming about who to ask for a guest post she was on the list ASAP but we weren’t sure if she would agree. She isn’t a blogger like the rest of our guests. So we were unbelievably proud and happy happy when she agreed to come over. LSUReader will tell us about her life and how tightly reading is woven into it. Please give her an extra warm welcome. Mom must have read to me in utero. I can’t remember a time in my life when I didn’t love reading.
What I can remember is sitting on my father’s lap in his living room recliner, while he taught me to read from Dr. Seuss books. I was four. He’d pronounce each word carefully, then read the sentence completely, with …
