A Few Select Shades of Black and Blue

With the sudden popularity of BDSM in fiction due to a certain best-selling book, one of the more subversive elements in my House of Arkhangel’sk series has gained an unexpected—well, if not exactly respectability, a definite fashionability. All the cool kids are doing it.

One of my characters, the demon Belphagor, is a …

The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me?

Welcome back to The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me, our little cover haven. Here we let our shallow selves to the surface and we’re not scared of criticizing books we love.

This week we’ll be looking at upcoming releases. Some we are desperately awaiting- others just caught our eyes. So get yourself a drink and join the cover talk.

Caro: *squeeeeee* I am loving the cover of Trapped! Seriously the previous cover was SO fugly I was despairing we would ever get pretty covers again for this series. I am a huge fan of the books and I cannot wait for Trapped. It’s fantastic that Atticus is sharing the spotlight with Granuaile. *squeee* I just wished he wasn’t wearing a deep V-neck shirt *rolleyes*

I love the new Gail Carriger cover! It’s just awesome. It’s stylish and badass all in 1 cover. I wonder who she’s planning to kill with her scissors …

Elisabeth Barrett

We are excited to welcome author Elisabeth Barrett to BLI today. Elisabeth is here to celebrate celebration her forthcoming novel Deep Autumn Heat which will be available ebook format from Loveswept/Random House on July 9, 2012! Deep Autumn Heat is the first novel of Elisabeth’s Star Harbor series and introduces the sexy Grayson brothers, specifically Master Chef Sebastian Grayson. Eisabeth is going to talk about a topic that is a favorite for many of us romance lovers – alpha males…specifically EntitledAlpha males.

Take it away Elisabeth!

The Entitled Alpha:

I’ve been thinking a lot about alpha males lately, in large part due to the discussions I’ve been having with fellow authors regarding the nature of the alpha/beta dichotomy. I enjoy reading about both types of men, and I don’t think that the line between alpha and beta is as clear-cut as many would like to believe. Good …

The Soupy Winner Post

Hi Everyone!

My family has gone on a mini vacation so I have the house to myself this weekend!! Yay!! 😀 I just love the peace and quiet and that I could spend the day in PJs if I wanted 😉 And the weather is perfect, so I know what I’ll be doing in the afternoon: soaking up the sun with a great book 😀 But first I’ll be cooking. You might know that I LOVE cooking and baking, and we have a small herb garden. Yesterday morning I thought it was time to harvest our basilic, oregano, thym and mint, so the kitchen was full of the enticing scent of freshly chopped herbs. And you want to know what I did with them? I made some virgin mojito (=minty lemonade) and minty pea cream soup, a meal I discovered this week at a restaurant and one I instantly fell in …

From the Journals of Sophia Noirot: A dress is a weapon. It must dazzle his eye, raise his temperature . . . and empty his purse.

A blue-eyed innocent on the outside and a shark on the inside, dressmaker Sophy Noirot could sell sand to Bedouins. Selling Maison Noirot’s beautiful designs to aristocratic ladies is a little harder, especially since a recent family scandal has made an enemy of one of society’s fashion leaders. Turning scandal to the shop’s advantage requires every iota of Sophy’s manipulative skills, leaving her little patience for a big, reckless rakes like the Earl of Longmore. The gorgeous lummox can’t keep more than one idea in his …

Elements in Lit 201: The End

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these “lessons” and it will probably be the last one for quite a while to come, so it seemed fitting that we talk about endings.

With so many resources online these days and easier access to the authors, for the most part, us readers know ahead of time if a book will be a stand-alone or if it will be X part of a series, right? But what about when you read something and you feel that there’s no resolution, yet you know there will be no more? Or, probably worse than that is if a book that was mostly just okay to begin with ends on a cliff hanger? What do you do?!

I’ve come across both of these situations over the last couple of years. In the first scenario, I was reading Lisa McMann’s Wake trilogy. They were quick, …
