Hey Everyone!
Haven’t you noticed that weekends tend to fly by twice as fast as the week? *sighs* It is Sunday again, and I’m not thrilled to go to work tomorrow, I’m right in the middle of a chewing-my-nails-down-it’s-so-exciting read, and I just want to stay home curled up and immerse myself in the story. 🙁 Oh well. What gives me hope is that due to some national bank holiday after this coming week I’ll have a 4 day-long weekend, yippee! 😀 I’ve already started to think which books I should go through in this mini read-a-thon of mine… I’ve had Jeaniene Frost’s series on my TBR for ages, and after all the yummy things I hear about Bones, it’s about time I discovered that series. Hm, what do you think? Which fantastic books would you recommend to me?
Ok, ok, no worries, …
Wow this week we have had major news shaking up publishing and ebooks, so it is a bit jam packed issue in today’s news post.
The biggest and most contraversial announcement though has to be HarperCollins’ announcement that their ebooks would be restricted with a 26 borrowed limit. As you can imagine this has ignited the ire of many librarians and their patrons about this because the limit is set at such a low level.
HarperCollins have responded in an open letter to libraries and library users to explain this new measure by saying this would be a way to protect ebook growth and market. Below is an extract of an open letter explaining this and click here for the full statement:
We have serious concerns that our previous e-book policy, selling e-books to libraries in perpetuity, if left unchanged, would undermine …
We are very happy to have author Keith Melton here at Book Lovers Inc today. He’s the author one of the funniest books I ever read—The Zero Dog War was released last month and I still have to smile just thinking about it. Keith is here today to talk about himself, humor and his books. Please give him a warm welcome.
Book Lovers Inc: Keith can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Keith Melton: Typically I ride wyverns and fight against alien invaders while wearing a hat like Indiana Jones. That’s a bit of a hobby, though. When back on my meds, I write speculative fiction, mostly Urban Fantasy. And the rest of the time I spend chained to a cubicle, staring at a screen and muttering to myself—not about staplers, but about how no one ever cleans …

When two people make beautiful music together onstage, can their love survive once the curtain falls? Linnea Larson is willing to do anything to keep her family’s Minneapolis dinner theatre from going under. Anything, that is, besides accepting a date from the Hollywood hunk her father hired to inject a dose of star power into their production of Guys & Dolls. It’s a toss up whether his greatest claim to fame is playing a superhero on screen, or a super stud off screen. Neither fact convinces her he’s got what it takes to share her stage. And thanks to a life long pact with her best friend, she never dates actors.

Think a vampire-hunting bloodhound is dangerous? Try threatening his woman.
Bloodhounds, Book 1
Wilder Harding is a bloodhound, created by the Guild to hunt down and kill vampires on America’s frontier. His enhanced abilities come with a high price: on the full moon, he becomes capable of savagery beyond telling, while the new moon brings a sexual hunger that borders on madness.
Rescuing a weapons inventor from undead kidnappers is just another assignment, though one with an added complication—keeping his hands off the man’s pretty young apprentice, who insists on tagging along.
At odds with polite society, Satira’s only constant has been the aging weapons inventor who treats her like a daughter. …

For the next little while, I’ve decided to stick within the Speculative Fiction category because there just so many levels, that I feel it needs special attention. Today, I want to focus on Horror. The first thing that comes to mind, for me, under this title is Stephen King. For me he embodies the dark, scary stories that are synonymous with horror. What I was surprised to learn through my research is that a) horror , though created long ago, was a genre revived in the eighteenth century, largely with a female audience in mind and written by women and b) one of my fave types of literature, the Gothic novel, also falls within the realm of horror.

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she’s part angel. What I love about the first 5 books is the kick-ass story lines. The books are 80% story and 20% sex. After that the percentages flip . I’ve kept with it though, and she is now getting back to the main story arc.
