When Authors Go Mad and Mad AND HULK

This week has heralded another entry (actually make that TWO- I just received breaking news whilst writing this post) for authors behaving badly. In fact we have had to make this a special post because, this would overshadow the general news post and I think that would be a disservice to it because I think after reading this post – it can never be stressed enough. Don’t react this way when you’re an author, a reviewer or a blogger.

Chiclit author, Sylvia Massara blogged about unprofessional reviewers who reviewed one of her books and created a huge backlash. My fellow Book Pusher – MinnChica gives a great summary of this brouhaha here at our blog . However she wrote this before Massara re-edited her post to remove her linking to Book Binge and another reviewer who also reviewed the …

Earlier this week the author, L.J Smith who is behind the successful YA books, The Vampire Diaries has announced that she wont be writing future books in the series because she does not agree to the new direction that the new series is heading. Alloy Entertainment who have creative control over the series as well as the rights will be concentrating on the relationship with Elena and Stefan instead of Damon. Smith has said she was deeply saddened …

Guestpost: Living In The Past by Vanessa Kelly + Giveaway

We are very happy to welcome regency author Vanessa Kelly here at Book Lovers Inc today.  One of her stories is part of the Invitation to Sin anthology which was released this month. Today she will tell us about her love for Regency Romance. Please give Vanessa a warm welcome and be sure to answer her question at the end for the chance to win your own copy.

I freely admit that the past holds an irresistible lure for me. As an author of Regency-set historical romance, this fascinating era provides the opportunity to bring my stories to life in settings that seem familiar but exotic, glittering and gritty, and full of endless possibilities for drama, passion, and conflict.

And I love the research. Okay, I realize that loving research so much qualifies me as a serious geek, but I like nothing better than sitting down with a …

Forget ghosts who rattle chains, try living with ones that like to grope.

Jenna, desperate for change, buys a repossessed home on a whim. The townsfolk claim it’s haunted, but Jenna’s pretty sure all it needs is some filler to stop the drafts. But before long, even she has to admit, there’s more going on here than the vagaries of an old house. And whatever it is keeps making her panties damp and her dreams hot.

Derrick and Mark, werewolf twins, are stuck in their house as disembodied spirits all because of an evil witch. When their fated mate suddenly becomes the new owner, they …

Bookish Rants or Raves: Is Bigger, Better?

Hey Everyone! After this hiatus, when Authors took over our beloved Book Lovers Inc., I am back =)

I have been thinking about length when it comes to books. They can be in a series or standalone, but do the length matter? Do you prefer shorter books or longer ones? Full Novels or Novellas?

I am usually partial to Full length novels in general, but I have enjoyed a lot of Novellas and I feel that sometimes they are perfect in size to tell some stories that don’t really need 300+ pages to be told.

However, there are some Novellas or shorter length novels that have the potential to be so amazing, that the shorter length just doesn’t do it justice. In those cases, bigger would definitely be better.

Now, I want to know from you guys…

Do …

Book Blurb:

All I see are murky depths that could swallow me whole.

Mom knew that the mermaids – hand carved from driftwood by the owner of a souvenir shop – were all I wanted to take home from Florida. As she bought them, she looked down at me, her eyes not just glittering but snapping with fire like two Fourth of July sparklers. She ran her finger down the length of my nose, almost like you’d stroke a favourite pet, and said to the salesman, “We’re just alike, me and Aura.”

And you know, back then, the …

Young Adult: The Simpler Side of Life?

Sometimes I think people would say that I whinge more about YA than I read it, but that isn’t true. YA is like a friend or relative I turn to when everything gets too much. YA provides a simpler outlook on life devoid of adult issues and ways.

I have often said that it would be nice to be a kid again, when times were simpler. All one had to worry about was our friends, our homework and what movie we really wanted to see when our mum’s would let us go. Our biggest issue in life was a boy/girl not liking us or one of our friends giving us the silent treatment. Compared to what I have to deal with as an adult…that seems like heaven.

Yet young adults in general are so eager to grow up so it is …

Guest Post: Being an Author, Top 10 by Sherry Ficklin + Giveaway

Today we have the pleasure to welcome Author Sherry Ficklin on Book Lovers Inc. Military Brats: After Burn is the first book in a new series and it is release this week! You can read our Sexy Lover’s review HERE. Check out Sherry’s plans if she ever become a ‘huge world famous author’. I have to say I’d like to do a few things from that list too *wink* . Stay tuned until the end, Sherry is offering a cool prize pack to 1 lucky commenter!

Being an author, there is a certain level of expectation from the people I meet. As soon as they find out what I do they assume I’m rich and famous. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Early on in my career even I had these preconceived notions about the life of a writer. I remember …
