who commented on our post: ‘Romance and Me: Holiday Romances“‘

“Sure, some of them can be too sickeningly sweet and cheesy, but somehow around the holidays cheesiness is tolerated a bit more, don’t you think?”

YES!!! I feel the same way!

I started reading Christmas themed books–and Christmas romances, in particular about two years ago and this third year has pretty much set this new tradition of mine into stone. It really helps awaken the Christmas spirit in me as I start to read these types of stories in December. I can’t imagine NOT reading at least one Christmas romance this time of year anymore!

Congrats hon! I just sent you an email. Please email us back in the in the next 72 hours to claim your price.

We will now start counting for January. Here …

Happy New Year! Goodbye Bookies – Hello Star Review Ratings!

Happy New Year Everyone!

After careful consideration and discussion (not really – LOL) we have decided to discontinue using “Bookies” as our tool for rating reviews and adopt the more traditional “Stars”. Except our Stars are red because, well, we like red! 🙂

As you can see from the legend in the BLI Sidebar, our rating system hasn’t changed:

5 Stars: Perfect! I Love It!

4 Stars: Awesome Book!

3 Stars: I Liked It!

2 Stars: Not bad, but maybe not for me.

1 Star: Didn’t like it! Did Not Finish it.

We will use the 1/2 star rating to further define our opinion/enjoyment of the book. 🙂

New Year, New Platform, New Look and New Stars! Yay!

To all Our Readers:

We appreciate your support of BLI more than you …

Bookish Rants or Raves: Holiday Reading Habits

‘Tis the season of giving, of partying, of family get togethers and of relaxing, so what does that mean for you and your reading habits?

I for one will say that whenever Christmas rolls around, I barely get any reading done, being at home for 10 days means catching up on a million things and spending time with family.

One would think that with so much “free time” it spells happiness in the form of a dwindling TBR pile, but alas, no it does not. I looked at my bedside table today and realised that I have had the same book sitting there for over a week without picking it up!

I have found more recently especially that most, nearly all, of my reading gets done outside of the house. Whether it be while I’m in my car waiting, at work on lunch break or the rare occasions I am using public transport.

Book Blurb:

Sweet, bookish Neve Slater always plays by the rules. And the number one rule is that good-natured fat girls like her don’t get guys like gorgeous, handsome William, heir to Neve’s heart since university. But William’s been in LA for three years, and Neve’s been slimming down and re-inventing herself so that when he returns, he’ll fall head over heels in love with the new, improved her.

So she’s not that interested in other men. Until her sister Celia points out that if Neve wants William to think she’s an experienced love-goddess and not the fumbling, awkward girl he left behind, then she’d better get some, well, experience.

What Neve needs is someone to …

Romance and Me: What’s your story?

Hey Everyone!

We have been discussing romance novel related topics for some months now, and even though you have told me about your firsts, I still haven’t heard your story. The story of how you discovered and fell in love with the romance genre.

Was it love at first read? Or did it take several books? What kind of romance novel is your favourite?

I started out by falling for historical romances, I’ve always loved period dramas, so reading historical romance stories felt natural to me. But somehow I wasn’t eager to read contemporary romances, the only exception were Nora Roberts books. (I discovered the whole romance genre thanks to my high school best friend lending me one of NR’s stories, and she became my “Nora Roberts dealer”.) HR was my first and only love for a very long time. I only got to like …
