Are You a Cat Person or a Dog Person?

Cat or dog shifters that is. 😉 I’ve always loved shifter stories, something about getting in touch with your inner animal appeals to me on a base level. It’s more than just being able to change form, it’s about becoming that creature, reverting to a more …

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

Welcome to this new’s post which seems to be more eventful than last week, and the authors Forbes list as well as a tale of two covers.

However first up, this is a headsup to anyone who is still using Microsoft Lit or still have books in that format. You’d better find a way to save these books as Microsoft has sadly discontinued this format (don’t y’all love DRM?) – the app will be pulled by the end of this month and any stores still carrying this format will have to stop by the 8th of November so back up and save and if you can find a way to convert them in alternate formats.

The Forbes list of the biggest selling and richest authors lists was released this week. James Patterson hit the …

Montana Hendrix has found her calling—working with therapy dogs. With a career she loves in a hometown she adores, she’s finally ready to look for her own happily ever after. Could one of her dogs help her find Mr. Right…or maybe Dr. Right?

Surgeon Simon Bradley prefers the sterility of the hospital to the messiness of real life, especially when real life includes an accident-prone mutt and a woman whose kisses make him want what he knows he can’t have.

Scarred since childhood, he avoids emotional entanglement by moving from place to place to heal children who need his skillful …

Guestpost: "A Ghost Romance? Say it ain’t so!" by Julia Rachel Barrett + Giveaway

I’m very happy to welcome the wonderful Julia Rachel Barrett here at Book Lovers Inc today. She just recently published her first ghost story, Incorporeal, a heartbreakingly good romance that will grab you from page one and not let you go till the end. This book was a real pleasure to read. And guess what, today she will tell us about trying to sell Incorporeal and she even brought a copy along for one lucky commenter. So keep the comments coming, you don’t want to miss this one.

When I pitched the outline of a ghost romance to three different publishers, they brushed me off before I could complete a single sentence.

“A ghost romance won’t sell. Nobody wants to read about an incorporeal hero.”

Incorporeal?

Those out of hand rejections shaped my story and provided a title. You know, we …

On the Book Lovers’ Shelves

Here at Book Lovers Inc., we claim to be “book lovers”. Now we’ve decided to back up those claims. We’re going to be showing off our book shelves at home to prove just how crazy adoring we are! I recently acquired two additional bookcases, so I volunteered to let you all have a peek at mine first (while they’re still relatively neat 🙂

This bookcase is in my bedroom. The top two shelves are dedicated to my review copies that I will be working on soon. Then there’s all of my Anne Rice books and various mystery/suspense books.

These are my two most recent additions. They sit on either side of the window in my kitchen. (Did I mention I live in an 840 sq. ft. apartment?) The left …

Genres 101: "It was a dark and stormy night…" (Today’s Lesson: Mystery)

As far back as I can remember, I have been a huge fan of mysteries. I mean, I always wanted to learn the rest of that story Snoopy wrote with the first line, “It was a dark and stormy night…” You just knew things were going to get good from there, right? From comics to novels, I quickly moved on in reading material but each year I still buy at least one book (ok, I’m grossly under estimating) that would be considered “Mystery”.

It’s easy to limit the category to that one title but mystery has many facets and seems to be growing in content as our world is changing. Examples of this type of novel appear in the early 1800’s but it is the master himself, the most familiar name, worldwide, that helped to …
