Around The Bookish World: Week-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post! In this edition we have news on more on the Agency DOJ trial with Penguin and Apple in the US, Avon starting up a site where authors can share their romance books to readers for feedback and more news in the world of publishing!

First up, I reported a few weeks ago that Penguin would probably settle in the EU over Agency pricing however in the US – Judge Coates has denied the right of a jury trial which may affect Penguin in dropping their case and settling instead. And like the other publishers Penguin will have to offer compensation to customers who were caught up in buying their agency priced books. It is not clear if Apple will relent as well but the trial will start on June the 3rd.

Avon Romance has created a site called Share Your Book which allows readers to …

The Promise Harbor Wedding, Book 3

Hockey star Jackson Knight has a hundred reasons not to return to Promise Harbor, but none of them are good enough to get him out of attending his best friend’s wedding. Even with a career-ending knee injury, every puck-bunny in town will be gunning for him.

Worse, getting a pair of cuffs slapped on him at the bachelor party could ruin any chance of getting back in the game, even as a coach. Unless he can convince the arresting officer to smooth things over—by going to the wedding as his date.

Hayley Stone figures posing as Jackson’s girlfriend is the least she can do …

Bookish Rants and Raves:Desperately finishing a book

How desperate have you been to finish a book?

Have you been late for work? Late for school? Late for a date?

How about late for a flight?

Recently I read The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling. I happened to be about to finish it on a Friday, the same Friday I needed to get on a plane to New Zealand, for a wedding. I was 40 pages out from finishing. In the morning before work I knocked over 36 pages, bad luck and potential lateness (again) left me with 4 pages to go. I was already running on a favour from my boss letting me leave early, which is why I couldn’t risk being late. I didn’t take lunch that day so I couldn’t finish it at work, but I took my book anyway.

At the risk of losing my job I subtly read two more pages at my desk when I was …

Rather than confirm her reputation as the family screw-up, Greta takes a drive to clear her head.
